Player Profile: Mateja Kezman

March 6th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 1 Comment »

KezmanPlaying for some of the top clubs in Europe, Serbia and Montenegro’s Mateja Kezman has established himself as a dangerous striker.

Kezman began his impressive climb up the ranks of international strikers with Sartid and FK Partizan in his homeland. His exploits there helped land a contract in Holland where Kezman made a name for himself by scoring 105 times in 123 league games for PSV Eindhoven. These impressive numbers earned him a contract with Chelsea.

Playing for England’s top club in 2004, Kezman never got the minutes he wanted. He only started six league games, scoring a total of seven goals in all competitions.

Frustrated with his playing time at Chelsea, Kezman moved to Atletico Madrid in June 2005.

Kezman is a regular fixture in the Serbia and Montenegro lineup. During the team’s qualifying play, his timely goals helped the Plavi to finish first in their group. His game winner against Bosnia and Herzegovina secured Serbia and Monetnegro’s place in the World Cup.

Kezman’s nickname is Batman.
